Zahharova on Armenia-Azerbaijan Negotiations
Russia is contributing to the comprehensive regulation of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. This statement was made by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, who reminded that today, November 9, marks the second anniversary of the signing of the tripartite statement on the ceasefire in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.
In her opinion, this step has allowed to put an end to the bloodshed and has initiated the establishment of peaceful life in the region. Zakharova emphasized that according to the tripartite statement, the Russian peacekeeping forces deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh are effectively fulfilling their assigned tasks and are making a significant contribution to stabilizing the situation in the region and ensuring security.
“This is appreciated by our Armenian and Azerbaijani friends. The agreements of November 9, 2020, January 11, 2021, November 26, 2021, and October 31, 2022, have laid the groundwork for the start of the comprehensive regulation process of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Zakharova said.
She believes that substantial work has been done in the framework of the tripartite working group co-chaired by the Deputy Prime Ministers towards unblocking transport communications in the South Caucasus.
“We are moving along the path of prompt implementation of specific projects aimed at revealing the economic and transport potential of the South Caucasus. According to the leaders' statement of November 26, 2021, a bilateral commission for delimiting the Armenian-Azerbaijani border was established and has started working with the advisory support of Russia,” she noted.
Zakharova assessed that the work of this mechanism is critically important for stabilizing the situation in the region.
