Preparation of Peace Treaty Coordinated with Yerevan and Baku, Says Zakharova
Russia will support Yerevan and Baku in the search for mutually acceptable solutions. This statement was made today by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, during a press briefing, in response to a question about whether the meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington indicates a desire to sign a peace treaty under Western, rather than Russian, auspices.
“As far as we have seen from the comments made by both countries, the exchange of opinions continues on the topic of preparing the peace treaty. The discussion has been held, including taking into account the results of the Sochi summit. I have not seen that the parties have abandoned references to the agreements reached,” Zakharova said.
She reminded that in the joint statement of October 31, the leaders of the states emphasized the importance of preparing a peace treaty between Yerevan and Baku with the aim of achieving stable and long-term peace in the region. An agreement has been reached to continue searching for mutually acceptable solutions based on the current developments.
“We will support this process. As for Russia's role in the settlement, the leaders confirmed their commitment to all trilateral agreements in Sochi. All this forms the basis for joint work towards a comprehensive resolution of bilateral relations,” she said.
