Who Says Artsakh Has a Future Within Azerbaijan Is a State Criminal: Metakse Hakhobyan

Who says that Artsakh has a future within Azerbaijan is a state criminal. This statement was made by Metakse Hakhobyan, an MP from the 'Justice' party, during an extraordinary session of the Artsakh National Assembly on October 30.

“We have reached the threshold beyond which our homeland's loss comes, for which our heroes fought,” she added. To avoid loss, Hakhobyan urged remembering the past.

“In the spring of 1919, Azerbaijan carried out military operations and expelled tens of thousands of Armenians from their homes. As a result, we are once again facing the threat of a new genocide. The atmosphere in Artsakh and Armenia is one of uncertainty. On September 2, 1991, based on the legislation of the USSR, Artsakh adopted the declaration of independence of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, and on December 10, held a referendum on independence. All this took place under shelling, amidst new victims and injuries,” noted the MP.

According to her, the true ally of Armenia and Artsakh is Russia, which offers its variant of a peace treaty that could create opportunities for resolving the Artsakh issue, based on the interests of the Armenian people.

The people of Artsakh do not have the right to make mistakes, and adventurism will lead to the destruction of Armenia and Artsakh. Our vector has only one direction. The Western version of the peace treaty means the destruction of the Republic of Artsakh. We demand from the negotiators and decision-makers to reject and not to ratify any document that undermines the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination and attempts to forcibly transfer Artsakh to Azerbaijan.

If we negotiate, it can only be on the basis that Artsakh has been, is, and will be Armenian, and under no circumstances can it be part of Azerbaijan. We call on everyone to unite around Artsakh, realizing that it stands before an existential threat,” stated Hakhobyan.

According to her, recent geopolitical developments are creating new challenges for Artsakh. Today, the collective West's position regarding the future of Artsakh and the resolution of the Artsakh issue is more worrisome than ever,” Hakhobyan concluded.
