The Criminal Police Department has made significant progress in the investigation of a serious crime. Following systematic operational-search measures, information regarding the whereabouts of a fugitive accused of a serious crime was obtained. This information was verified and acted upon on October 24.

Officers from the Criminal Police Department and the Hrazdan division traveled to Vanadzor. They discovered and arrested a 20-year-old man in a park adjacent to Abovyan Street in Vanadzor. The Armenian police reported this information.

It is recalled that on July 10 of this year, a 48-year-old man from Tsaghkadzor, Vardan Arakelyan, was transported to the Hrazdan Medical Center with gunshot wounds in a “VAZ-2121” vehicle. A criminal case was initiated in the Kotayk regional investigative department following this incident.

During the extensive investigative actions conducted throughout the preliminary investigation, it was established and substantiated that Vardan Arakelyan had gone to Tsaghkadzor's Mayisyan Street with a close acquaintance, who was driving a “Niva.” There, he and the father of the 20-year-old suspect had an argument, after which the young man fired shots from a submachine gun toward the “VAZ-2121” vehicle. Vardan Arakelyan was injured and later died.

In September, public criminal proceedings were initiated against the 20-year-old suspect, and he was declared wanted. The suspect has now been presented to the prosecuting authority. The investigation is ongoing.
