Azerbaijani Aggressions Against Armenia are Unacceptable: NA President Meets with US Congress Members

On October 18, the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, hosted a delegation of US Congress members led by the Chairman of the House Democracy Partnership, David Price. After exchanging pleasantries, the parties discussed the repercussions of the aggressive actions by Azerbaijani armed forces on September 13.

President Simonyan stated, "Despite the fragile ceasefire agreement achieved on the evening of September 14 through the mediation of the United States, the Azerbaijani side continues to regularly violate the ceasefire regime after that date." He expressed gratitude to the US authorities, including several Congress members, for their timely assessments of recent developments and for the repatriation of 17 prisoners of war to Armenia through US mediation.

The discussions also addressed the Azerbaijani military's incursion into Armenian territory and the expansionist ambitions of Azerbaijan and Turkey. The American side deemed the Azerbaijani aggressions against Armenia's territorial integrity as unacceptable.

President Simonyan highly valued the cooperation between Armenia and the United States at all levels. He emphasized the significance of the official visit of the US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi-led delegation during this critical period for Armenia.

The meeting touched upon inter-parliamentary dialogue and parliamentary diplomacy. According to Alen Simonyan, Armenia's membership in the bipartisan House Democracy Partnership committee is very important. He stressed that this visit holds significant importance for the continuity of cooperation in this format.

The Armenian side also appreciated the work of the House Committee on Armenian Issues, including programs to support Armenia, provide humanitarian aid to Artsakh, promote trade initiatives, facilitate the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

Discussions during the meeting included legislative-executive relations, the parliamentary opposition, and mechanisms for decision-making.
