Attempt to Smuggle 19,150 Cigarette Packs from Iran Foiled by Armenia's State Revenue Committee
The State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia's Department for Combating Smuggling is continuously monitoring the transportation of goods without excise stamps across the borders of the Republic of Armenia.
In recent months, employees of the Regional Division of the Anti-Smuggling Department in Syunik and the Megrik Customs Post of the Southern Customs Department have conducted targeted inspections on trucks and passenger vehicles entering the Republic of Armenia from the Islamic Republic of Iran through the Agarak border checkpoint.
As a result of these monitoring efforts, a total of 383,000 sticks, or 19,150 packs of tobacco products hidden from customs control, were discovered and removed from illegal circulation.
Materials have been prepared for each case based on the violation characteristics of Article 201 of the Republic of Armenia's Customs Code, and these have been forwarded to the Southern Customs Administration of the State Revenue Committee for administrative proceedings.
