“Azerbaijan Seeks Corridor to Nakhchivan Outside of Armenia’s Control,” Says Iranian Official
Azerbaijan is striving to obtain a "corridor" to Nakhchivan that lies outside of Armenia's control. This was stated by Javad Hedayatin, the director of Iran's Road and Urban Development Organization, in an interview with the Iranian ILNA news agency.
According to the Iranian official, the current situation is unlikely to be maintained, and therefore Iran must be prepared for any scenario. “Apparently, Azerbaijan is aiming to establish a corridor to Nakhchivan without any obstacles and with long-term guarantees, and set up an energy transit corridor directly from the Caspian Sea to Turkey, coordinated with its allies. We must consider that this situation is unlikely to continue, and for this reason, we must be ready for any situation,” said Hedayatin.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly declared over the past two years that it opposes the so-called "corridor" championed by Azerbaijan and Turkey through Armenia's Syunik province, emphasizing that any change to the Iran-Armenia border is unacceptable for it.
