The Color and Fee for 'Red Lines' Will Change: Draft Bill
The government of Armenia has decided to change the color and fee of paid parking spaces known as 'red lines'. The draft bill amending the law on 'Local Fees for Parking of Motor Vehicles and Specifics of Administrative Proceedings' was approved by the Armenian government today and will soon be presented to the National Assembly.
The draft stipulates that current uniform parking spaces in Yerevan will be differentiated based on purpose: one color for drivers with disabilities, another for service vehicles, and a separate color marking for ordinary citizens.
"Although there are certain sections in 'red color markings' designated exclusively for the parking of motor vehicles by individuals with disabilities, they are not distinguishable from other drivers due to the color uniformity, which significantly hinders the resolution of parking issues for persons with disabilities," the justification for the draft states.
Additionally, fees will change according to location. Parking in central areas will be more expensive, while it will be cheaper in the suburbs. New rates will be set based on the existing zoning.
Currently, the payment rates are uniform and parking spaces are not categorized by zoning. What prices and colors will be set remains unknown. The government will make a new decision on this matter, but only after the acceptance of this legislative proposal by parliament.
