Recent Incidents Resulted in Numerous Casualties on Both Sides, Unfortunately, Border Incidents Occur: Aliyev
The maintenance of the ceasefire regime at the border indicates that neither Armenia nor Azerbaijan had intentions for a large-scale escalation. This was stated by Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This information was reported by РИА Новости, citing the meeting between the two leaders.
Aliyev also expressed gratitude to Putin for the quick response to the escalation at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. He asserted that hostilities lasted less than 8 hours; however, a ceasefire has been maintained for nearly 2 days, indicating that neither Armenia nor Azerbaijan intended to escalate the situation significantly.
He noted that “unfortunately, border incidents happen,” and that the recent situation at the border resulted in numerous casualties on both sides, but “the important thing is that we managed to stabilize the situation and return it to a peaceful path.”
