Azerbaijan Plans New Attack Towards Nakhichevan, Says Armenia's Permanent Representative at UN

Azerbaijan is planning to carry out an attack towards Nakhichevan. This was announced by Armenia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Mher Margaryan, during today’s Security Council meeting.

“There are credible reports that Azerbaijan is planning another military attack, expanding the geography of its aggression, including towards Nakhichevan, to realize its illegal aspirations of creating a extraterritorial corridor through Armenia's sovereign territory,” he stated.

On September 13, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reported to the UN Security Council regarding this situation during a speech in the National Assembly. Subsequently, it was announced from the French presidential office that France would raise the issue in the UN Security Council.

Below, we briefly present excerpts from statements made during the urgent meeting of the UN Security Council convened based on Armenia's request regarding Azerbaijan’s military aggression:

Miroslav Jencha, Assistant to the UN Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia, and the Americas: “The United Nations welcomes the agreement established on September 14 for a ceasefire at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border at 20:00 local time and hopes that the ceasefire will be maintained.”

Representative of Russia at the UN: “The basis for the resolution of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations are the trilateral agreements that must be implemented. Geopolitical competition can only hinder the resolution of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations; the important thing now is to cease fire.”

Representative of the USA at the UN: “There is no military solution to the resolution of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. We call for a return to the negotiating table. We express our readiness to promote dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan through the coordination of the OSCE and partners.”

Representative of France at the UN: “We call on Azerbaijan to withdraw its troops to their starting position; Armenia's territorial integrity must be preserved. France will continue to support the process of achieving lasting peace in the region.”

Representative of India at the UN: “We urge the aggressor to immediately cease hostilities and exercise restraint. These actions pose a serious threat to the peace and stability of the region. The UN Security Council cannot remain silent and allow the situation to deteriorate.”

Representative of Norway at the UN: “The use of military force to resolve conflicts is unacceptable. We welcome the efforts of the US and the EU to support the advancement of negotiations.”
