Police Officers Beat Citizen in Gyumri, Resulting in Severe Deterioration of Victim's Consciousness

Information has emerged online regarding an incident between a citizen and police officers in Gyumri, during which the officers allegedly beat the citizen and used special means by pouring a substance into his eyes.

Arthur Manukyan, the director of the Gyumri ambulance station, confirmed in an interview with Tert.am that an incident did indeed occur, prompting an emergency call.

“The citizen was a 45-year-old man who was in a nervous and emotional state, experiencing severe headaches and fluctuations in blood pressure. He was provided medical assistance on-site, and there were no traces of violence or medication in his eyes; nonetheless, the patient did not report any such issues,” said Arthur Manukyan. “He was offered transportation to the hospital but refused with a signature.”

As earlier reported by AuroraNews.am, police officers had stopped a citizen and demanded to see his documents. The citizen requested a bit of time to call his family to bring the documents.

According to human rights defender Karapet Poghosyan, “... the police officers refused to grant any time, applied special means, poured a substance into the citizen’s eyes, and then began to beat him brutally… The citizen’s consciousness sharply deteriorated, and residents in the area were even prohibited from giving him water, citing that the substance they used could cause blindness… At this moment, an ambulance crew arrived, and local residents are angrily confronting the officers, naturally calling them names.”

The police stated in an interview with AuroraNews.am that the publication is currently under investigation.
