Truck Drivers Block One Lane of Yerevan-Meghri Highway: What is the Reason?
Truck drivers have blocked one lane of the Yerevan-Meghri highway. In an interview with Armenpress, the spokesperson for the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Sona Harutyunyan, stated that the reason for this action is the truck weighing process. Over the past month, inspection authorities have installed weighing scales on the roads, and trucks entering Armenia are required to be weighed.
“This process has caused dissatisfaction among truck drivers since most of the trucks are overloaded, and overloaded trucks are penalized by the inspection authorities with fines of up to 200,000 dram. They are demanding changes to the weighing system and to increase the allowable weight from 26 tons to 28 tons. However, there are established norms, and violating them also leads to liability,” Harutyunyan noted.
The spokesperson emphasized that there is a strict directive from the Government and personally from the Prime Minister to ensure compliance with these norms.
