Protest Action in Stepanakert
Today, on August 5, a group of representatives from civil and opposition forces organized a protest action in Stepanakert's Renaissance Square demanding the implementation of the conditions of the trilateral statement from November 9, 2020, and ensuring the security of the Artsakh people at an appropriate level. This was reported by Artsakhpress.
One of the organizers, the president of the Artsakh Revolutionary Party, Arthur Osipyan, informed an Artsakhpress reporter that they had met the day before with the commander of the Russian peacekeeping force, Major General Andrey Volkov, regarding the recent tensions.
"We demanded that clear steps be taken as necessary, because the Russian Federation has officially taken on the responsibility of ensuring the security of the Artsakh people. The civilian population has returned based on those given guarantees. We cannot oppose the Azerbaijani-Turkish terrorist machine alone; political decisions are required, which must be made by the great powers of the world, particularly Russia, which has assumed the role of a guarantor of peace in the region," said A. Osipyan.
According to Vahan Savadyan, the mayor of Hadrut and a participant in the protest, if the Russian peacekeeping forces do not take decisive actions in the direction of de-escalation and ensuring the safety of the civilian population, they will be forced to continue the protests.
