Kremlin on Escalating Situation in Nagorno-Karabakh
Russia's presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov has stated in a conversation with reporters that Moscow is concerned about the escalating situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and calls for restraint from both parties.
“We are following the situation very closely. Naturally, we are concerned that the situation has worsened. We call on both sides to exercise restraint and, most importantly, to comply with all provisions of the trilateral agreements,” he noted.
Peskov also mentioned that amid the escalation in Karabakh, there is currently no scheduled phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, but such a discussion could be coordinated quickly.
At the same time, he did not rule out that during talks between Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey, set to take place in Sochi, the escalating situation in Nagorno-Karabakh might be addressed.
It is noteworthy that since 09:00 on August 3, Azerbaijani units have targeted the combat positions of the Armenian Armed Forces and a permanent deployment site using small arms of various calibers, grenade launchers, mortars, and strike drones. The Armenian side has reported 2 casualties and 19 injuries.
