Where is Latvia buying Russian gas from after halting cooperation with Gazprom?

Latvijas gāze is purchasing Russian gas again, but not from Gazprom, instead sourcing it from another supplier, and is paying in euros, said the company's head, Aigars Kalvitis, during an appearance on Latvijas Televīzija. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

"Latvijas gāze is currently buying gas from Russia, but we are no longer purchasing gas from Gazprom as we cannot pay Gazprom. We have another supplier; this is commercial information that we do not discuss in the public domain," he stated.

Kalvitis also assured that the company pays its supplier in euros rather than in rubles.

In early July, the Latvian parliament passed amendments to the energy law prohibiting the purchase of Russian gas, and Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs stated that the country intends to move forward without relying on this resource.
