Germany's Public Debt Reaches Historic High

Germany's public debt has reached a historic high of €2.32 trillion as of the results for 2021. This was reported by the Federal Statistical Office of Germany.

“According to the results for 2021, public debt increased by 6.8% (or €148.3 billion) compared to the results of 2020, reaching the highest level in the entire history of debt issuance,” the report stated.

The authorities explained the increase as a consequence of measures taken to combat the coronavirus pandemic, as reported by TASS.
