Turkish Newspaper Calls 'Zangezur Corridor' the 'Turani Road'
The Turkey-affiliated newspaper 'Sabah' has published an article titled 'The Turani Road is Coming: It Will Connect Turkic States', in which it discusses the 'Zangezur Corridor', referring to it as the 'Turani Road'. This was reported by ermenihaber.am.
According to the Turkish media outlet, with the victory in Nagorno-Karabakh, a new corridor has opened between Turkey and Asia, which will connect Turkic-speaking countries with a GDP of $1.1 trillion.
It was emphasized that trade between Turkey and Azerbaijan amounts to about $4.5 billion, with an aim to raise it to $15 billion.
The article also stated that the opening of this corridor would put an end to restrictions on transit through Georgia and Iran.
According to the report, this route is expected to open this year and, after its operation, it will establish the basis for economic cooperation in the South Caucasus.
Furthermore, it was reiterated that the 'Zangezur Corridor' holds significant importance in terms of China's 'Belt and Road Initiative'. It was noted that once the corridor is operational, Azerbaijan's position, which lies between Turkey and China, will be strengthened from the perspective of the 'Belt and Road Initiative', and Zangezur could become an important alternative route for the initiative, especially following the increased significance after the Russia-Ukraine war.
