Azerbaijan and EU Sign Energy Security Agreement

Azerbaijan and the EU have signed an energy security agreement, Azerbaijani media report. The document was signed by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen during her visit to Baku and the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

Through this agreement, the EU aims to reduce dependence on Russian gas by increasing the role of the Southern Gas Corridor in diversifying natural gas supplies to Southeastern European countries.

Notably, this agreement contradicts the declaration on allied cooperation signed between Russia and Azerbaijan on February 22.
