None of the Family Members of the Newly Appointed Chief of the Armed Forces General Staff are Citizens of Armenia
The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia had been without a head since February 24. Yesterday, by presidential decree, Edward Asryan was appointed as the Chief of the General Staff, replacing Artak Davtyan, who was dismissed on February 24 and is currently under investigation for supplying the army with unusable missiles.
Edward Asryan was among the officers of the General Staff who demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on February 25 of the previous year. At that time, Asryan was the head of the Operational Department of the General Staff.
Tert.am inquired with the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption regarding the property declaration submitted by the Chief of the General Staff for 2021. However, according to the Commission's website, Asryan has not submitted his annual declaration for 2021, with the deadline for submission being May 31 of this year. Since 2019, none of his family members, including his wife, has submitted an annual declaration.
The media outlet learned from the indicated source that none of the family members of the Chief of the General Staff are citizens of the Republic of Armenia.
