Iran Announces Uranium Enrichment Up to 20 Percent
The spokesperson of the Atomic Energy Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Behrooz Kamalvandi, has stated that the country has informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about its intention to enrich uranium up to 20 percent using a cascade of centrifuges that were started two weeks ago, according to Tasnim news agency.
He noted that this is the final technical phase of the process and mentioned that Iran had previously informed the UN nuclear agency about its plans to feed uranium gas into the IR-6 centrifuge cascade at the Fordow facility.
Kamalvandi added that Western media have begun to exaggerate this matter as soon as the IAEA confirmed the fact of uranium enrichment in Iran. “Iran's step yesterday was the final technical step of a previously announced action. What the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran has done is in line with its legal responsibilities, which include the operation and enhancement of 1000 (six cascades) IR-6 centrifuges,” Kamalvandi said.
