Britain Faces 'Catastrophic' Winter with 'Millions' of Beggars

In January of next year, electricity bills for British households could rise to over three thousand pounds annually, which, according to experts, threatens to plunge "millions into poverty," reports RIA Novosti.

According to analysts at Cornwall Insight, the energy price cap set by the British energy regulator Ofgem is expected to rise from the current "record" 145 thousand rubles to about 240 thousand rubles in October, and then to around 250 thousand rubles by the beginning of next year. This latest prediction marks a sharp increase compared to previous estimates.

Experts warn that such a rise in prices could push "millions into poverty," meaning that British families will need significantly more support from the government during what has been described as a "catastrophic" winter, notes The Daily Mail.

Britons are already struggling against rising food and fuel prices, with inflation projected to climb to 11 percent by the end of the year, following a "huge" increase of 9.1 percent in May.

In April, the UK’s Ofgem raised the price cap on gas and electricity bills from £1,277 to £1,971 annually due to a sharp rise in global natural gas prices. Amid heightened sanctions from the West against Moscow regarding the Ukraine issue, many countries have announced the freezing of Russian assets and called for a rejection of Russian energy. These measures have posed problems for the West itself, leading to inflation and increased food and fuel prices.
