A shooting occurred in Highland Park, Illinois during a parade dedicated to Independence Day in the United States. According to RT, the death toll has risen to 6, with 24 people injured.

As previously reported by Wgntv, the gunfire began around 10:10 AM on Monday. Witnesses have reported seeing police presence and fire trucks, with some mentioning that they saw several people fleeing from the parade.

The suspected shooter is not in custody. Residents in the surrounding area have been urged to shelter in place and avoid the downtown area.

Witnesses have described the shooter as being on the rooftop of a store, firing into the crowd at the parade. Officials have not confirmed this information.
