Concerns Raised Over Biological Weapons Production in Armenian Laboratories: Ara Zohrapyan

A protest has commenced near the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention regarding the operations of biolaboratories. Participants claim that, in light of recent developments, there is a clear need to ensure a transparent and accountable investigation into the activities of these laboratories and to immediately prevent any threats posed to public health and life, should suspicions be confirmed.

The demonstration has been initiated by the 'Zartonk' National Christian Party, the 'KAMQ' public initiative, and the 'Liberation Movement' initiative.

“On June 22, 1943, Nazi Germany launched an attack on the Soviet Union, resulting in the deaths of approximately 200,000 Armenians. We have chosen this significant day to hold our protest, as today, governmental elites are attempting to manipulate the issue of biolaboratories,” stated Ara Zohrapyan, former president of the Armenian Bar Association, during a conversation with journalists.

“There are officially 8 laboratories operating in Armenia, funded by the U.S. government, specifically by the Department of Defense. Such laboratories exist in Gegharkunik, Lori, Syunik, and Tavush. Various information has been circulating regarding these laboratories. There are claims that biological weapons are being produced there, with materials for such weapons being developed. A significant portion of the public has not taken this seriously in the past and seems reluctant to do so now, but we must draw comparisons.”

Zohrapyan referenced the situation in Ukraine, “There was a similar situation there as well, with laboratories funded by the U.S. being discussed. People even organized petitions for these to be shut down in Ukraine, yet the residents did not take the matter seriously. There are also laboratories in Georgia. Now let’s return to our country and understand where the true issue lies.”

“At first glance, U.S. representatives seem to be doing good work, funding laboratories to ensure they operate effectively, but the crucial question is why these laboratories in Armenia are funded by the U.S. military department. We must reject this for three reasons. Firstly, these laboratories pose a threat to public health; secondly, the development of biological weapons is prohibited by international treaties and the criminal code of the Republic of Armenia,” he stressed.

“If the states that could potentially be targets of such biological weapons see that Armenia is hosting these laboratories, it could create an unhealthy atmosphere towards Armenia, similar to the case of Ukraine,” concluded Zohrapyan.
