Opposition Holds Emergency Gathering

“We will gather at 10:30 AM near the entrance of the National Assembly, from the Demirchyan street side,” wrote Hovhannes Harutyunyan, the founder of the “Voice of Youth” initiative, on his Facebook page.

Member of the “Resistance” movement, Sevak Nazaryan, also made a post: “Dear friends, this government is an expert in one thing: attempting to obscure important and fateful events for the country. Today, they are trying to obscure the presentation of Berdzor, Aghavnadzor, and the local Armenian territories to the enemy by supposedly ousting the opposition vice president of the National Assembly, Ishkhan Saghatelyan, and the chairman of the permanent commission on economic issues, Vahe Hakobyan, thereby satisfying the remnants of their electoral base.”

“First, let me say that the opposition, the Armenian people, do not care about any position. Secondly, the basis for the police reports against opposition figures during rallies is both laughable and illegal. Importantly, at least 270,000 citizens voted for the 'Armenia' alliance primarily to rid themselves of the Civil Contract party, therefore, the opposition's struggle should be evaluated by the citizens who voted for the alliance. It is they who should determine whether those parliamentary positions that legally belong to the opposition are deserved by them or not, not those whom the citizens wanted to oust.”
