‘Even if the alternative opinion does not please Mr. Pashinyan’: Vardapetyan

Anna Vardapetyan, who is set to be nominated for the position of the Prosecutor General of Armenia by the 'Civil Contract' faction, assures that professionalism has always been her benchmark in every position, and this time is no different.

Vardapetyan believes that her knowledge will enable her to meet public expectations regarding her nomination. As reported by Armenpress, she made this statement during a press briefing after a meeting with the ruling party faction in Parliament.

‘I received an offer. I asked for a day to think it over and agreed. I believe that at least 24 hours are necessary to make a weighed decision, free of emotions. I always take that one day before any important decision,’ Vardapetyan said.

The meeting with the parliament members was held to get acquainted with one another. Addressing the benchmark for this position, Vardapetyan stated, ‘In every position, professionalism has been my benchmark. In this case, a high level of professionalism is also my standard.’ She expressed a significant sense of responsibility.

‘This responsibility is also linked to the fact that no female candidate has ever been nominated for the position of Prosecutor General. This fact adds additional expectations, responsibilities, and standards. The responsibility is immense. I feel that responsibility and believe that my knowledge will allow me to meet public expectations regarding this nomination and appointment,’ Vardapetyan stated.

Speaking about the current Prosecutor General Arthur Davtyan, she noted that Davtyan's professionalism has allowed the system to remain in a maximally professional, apolitical, and independent position since 2018, emphasizing that the benchmark should be maintained and raised even higher.

When asked if the fact that she is an assistant to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan would constrain her during her tenure as Prosecutor General, she replied that her work with Pashinyan began on March 2, 2020, and during their first meeting before her appointment, they discussed the expectations the Prime Minister had for a legal advisor.

‘And that expectation has been to provide alternative opinions, even if the alternative opinion does not please Mr. Pashinyan,’ Vardapetyan said, assuring that her experience has shown she provides the Prime Minister with professional and legally objective opinions. She is confident that Pashinyan does not expect any constraints from her and will not expect them, highlighting that her recent work demonstrates this.
