Population Decline in Armenia: A Bleak Picture
The newspaper "Zhoghavorud" reports that within one year, Armenia's permanent population has decreased by 2,300 individuals. According to the data obtained from the Statistical Committee of Armenia as of April 1 of this year, the permanent population of the country stands at 2,961,600, compared to 2,963,900 during the same period last year.
On the other hand, it should be noted that in some areas of Armenia, the population has increased due to various movements. For instance, in the Armavir region, the population was 264,100 as of April 1, 2021, and has grown to 264,700 as of the same time this year. The population in the Ararat region has also increased, rising from 256,700 to 257,000. In Aragatsotn, the population has gone from 124,500 to 124,700 over the past year. Notably, the population in Gegharkunik has increased by 400.
Meanwhile, the population in Yerevan has decreased by 400, going from 1,093,600 last year on April 1 to 1,093,200 this year during the same period.
Additionally, there has been a decline in population in Vayots Dzor, Tavush, Syunik, Shirak, and Lori regions. In the border region of Syunik alone, the population has decreased by 700 over the year. It is worth noting that the population in Kotayk has remained stable at 251,400.
