Tragic Car Accident in Kotayk Province: Driver's Body Recovered with Great Difficulty by Rescuers

Today, on June 7, a major and tragic car accident occurred in Kotayk Province. Around 03:30, on the 26.8 km stretch of the Yerevan-Sevan highway, in the Chayni bend leading toward Yerevan, vehicles driven by residents of Gegharkunik Province, 32-year-old Sasun Ghazaryan in a BMW X5 and 37-year-old Gor Gevorgyan in a Ford Transit, collided.

According to reports from shamshyan.com, as a result of the collision, the Ford veered off the roadway, crashed into concrete barriers, and after rolling over several times for about 700 meters, ended up in a gorge.

As a result of the accident, G. Gevorgyan died on the spot. Rescuers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations managed to retrieve his body from the gorge with great difficulty. They first descended into the gorge using ropes and then brought the body up using a stretcher through the ropes.

The driver of the BMW X5 underwent a sobriety test at the scene; he was found to be intoxicated. According to preliminary information, while heading towards Yerevan, he collided with the Ford Transit, causing the latter’s driver to lose control and end up in the gorge.
