UN Changes Turkey's Name

The United Nations has granted Turkey's request to change the name of the republic in all official documents, UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stefan Dujarric announced to RIA Novosti.

“Republic of Turkey” has been renamed to “Republic of Türkiye,” Dujarric stated. According to him, the change has taken effect immediately following the application from Turkish authorities.

The short form of the country's name will now become Türkiye instead of Turkey, Dujarric added.

As explained by Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, the change in the spelling of Turkey's name has been adopted as part of Ankara's efforts aimed at enhancing the country's reputation in the international arena.
