Armenian Side Responds to Aliyev's Statements

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia has issued a statement regarding the remarks made by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on May 27.

The statement is as follows:

“The remarks made by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on May 27 once again testify to the Azerbaijani side's unconstructiveness, arbitrary and factually incorrect interpretations of agreements, and the continued aggressive and militaristic policy. Aspirations towards the sovereign territory of a neighboring state and the stance of using force to achieve these goals are nothing but a disregard for the norms of international law and severely undermine Azerbaijan’s sincerity in achieving peace in the region.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia considers it necessary to reaffirm the Armenian side's principled position that negotiations for the resolution of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan should be based on proposals from both sides that address the entire agenda, including the final settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.

The Azerbaijani side’s manipulations attempt to present the Nagorno-Karabakh issue as a territorial dispute, while it is about the realization of the rights of the Armenian population of Artsakh and the exclusion of the risk of ethnic cleansing.

In this regard, we remind that the international mandate received by the co-chairmanship of the OSCE Minsk Group in 1995 to support the comprehensive resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict continues to exist. We call on the leadership of Azerbaijan not to torpedo the ongoing discussions in the existing formats with militaristic and supremacist rhetoric.

At the same time, we draw the attention of the international community to the statements coming from official Baku and expect a clear expression of attitude from our international partners. Only in this case can we achieve stability and peace in the South Caucasus.”
