Germany Will Soon Have the Largest Army in Europe Within NATO: Scholz
The Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, has announced that Germany will soon have the "largest traditional army in Europe" among NATO countries. He expressed this opinion in an interview on Monday evening with the Neue Berliner Redaktionsgesellschaft, Stuttgarter Zeitung, and Stuttgarter Nachrichten, as reported by TASS.
“Germany will soon have the largest traditional army in NATO in Europe,” said Scholz, adding that this will significantly strengthen the security of Germany and its allies.
At the same time, the Chancellor does not understand the criticism directed at the German authorities due to the lack of military support for Ukraine, both domestically and internationally. “We have transferred weapons and will provide more weapons. These orders are being fulfilled,” emphasized Scholz, referring to the supply of heavy armaments that have been agreed upon with the industry.
In conclusion, Scholz noted that all of Germany's allies understand that the Bundeswehr does not have large stocks of ready-to-use vehicles that can simply be delivered. The main issue is that the Bundeswehr has been structurally underfunded since 2010, which, according to the Chancellor, has generally limited Germany's defense capabilities. But now, thanks to the establishment of a special fund of 100 billion euros for the Bundeswehr, everything is expected to change, Scholz concluded.
