US Provokes Food Crisis in Ukraine by Depriving It of Grain Reserves, Zakharova
Washington itself is provoking a food crisis in Ukraine by depriving it of grain reserves. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in comments released on Saturday.
“On May 10, US President Joe Biden's announcement regarding the need to export 20 million tons of grain from Ukraine coincided with the signing of the Ukrainian 'Lend-Lease' law. It turns out that Kyiv will pay for weapons with wheat. In fact, the Americans themselves are provoking the Ukrainian food crisis by depriving it of grain reserves,” the diplomat said while commenting on the situation regarding food security in the context of statements by foreign officials about the alleged 'blockade' of the Black Sea.
She emphasized that the US and the EU are talking about the intention to export 20 million tons of grain from Ukraine over a period of 2.5 months supposedly to send it to Africa and the Middle East to prevent a food crisis. “However, in reality, the grain is being moved to storage facilities in Europe, with railway, automobile, and river routes being organized for deliveries to Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Romania, and Bulgaria,” the Foreign Ministry representative added.
