Sanctions Will Affect All EAEU Member States, Lukashenko
The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, stated that due to the anticipated increase in global food demand, the EAEU must closely coordinate on food security issues to prevent shortages of goods.
“The proposal to develop indicative balances of essential goods for the EAEU internal market is appropriate. The EAEU has a good position in terms of food security, but due to the expected urgent demand for critical food products worldwide, close coordination is taking place. It is necessary to prevent shortages of certain goods in our countries,” Lukashenko remarked during a speech at the online meeting of the Eurasian Economic Supreme Council. He expressed the opinion that “the remaining CIS countries should also be encouraged to address the identified problems.”
He also noted that the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union are simply obliged to unite and present a united front. “Our meeting is taking place in complex geopolitical and economic conditions. However, we have successfully managed to halt issues in the monetary and financial market. Nevertheless, the pressure of sanctions is not subsiding, but on the contrary, is intensifying,” said Alexander Lukashenko.
The Belarusian leader pointed out that considering the global nature of the economy and that Russia is the largest trade partner for EAEU countries, the effects of sanctions will affect all members of the union to some extent.
