Kremlin Comments on Arrest of Former Moldovan President Dodon

The Kremlin deeply regrets the attacks on political figures in Moldova who advocate for the development of relations with Russia, and hopes that there will be no political overtones in the case of former President Igor Dodon. This was stated by Russian Federation President Dmitry Peskov, as reported by RIA Novosti.

On Tuesday, anti-corruption prosecutors arrested former Moldovan President Igor Dodon, who is suspected of corruption, illegal enrichment, financing a party through a criminal organization, and treason. Searches and investigative measures were carried out at the former leader's home. On Wednesday, formal charges were brought against him, and the prosecution sought a preliminary detention of 30 days; however, the court decided that Dodon would remain under house arrest during this period.

“We deeply regret that in another country we see sometimes legal, sometimes illegal, sometimes objective, sometimes subjective attacks on political figures who advocate for the development of relations with our country. We would like to see all of Dodon's legal rights respected,” said Peskov, responding to reporters' questions about how the Kremlin views Dodon's house arrest and whether they consider this decision to be politically motivated.
