20 Criminal Cases Launched Regarding Police Actions: 'Zhoghovurd'
Since the start of the mass disobedience actions, the Special Investigation Service and the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia have received 38 reports regarding allegedly unlawful actions of the respective officers of the RA police that contain traits of crimes. This was stated by the RA Prosecutor General's Office in response to a query from 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper.
Specifically, we attempted to find out through the inquiry how many complaints have been received regarding police actions since the onset of the disobedience actions until now, who submitted them, what actions were taken in response, how many cases have been initiated, and on what grounds.
Of the 38 reports, a decision has been made to initiate criminal proceedings for 20 of them, while 10 have been rejected, and materials are still being prepared for 8 reports.
The Prosecutor's Office has also informed that the initiative to initiate criminal proceedings was triggered by media publications, reports from citizens, members of the National Assembly, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, and lawyers.
