What Did Macron and Erdogan Discuss?

French President Emmanuel Macron called on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to respect Finland and Sweden's desire to join NATO during a phone conversation. This was reported by France-Presse on Thursday, citing the Elysee Palace.

During the conversation, Macron "emphasized the need to respect the sovereign choice of the two countries." He noted that the intention of Finland and Sweden to join the North Atlantic Alliance is due to a "change in the security situation," the agency added.

It is worth recalling that Erdogan announced on May 16 that he opposed the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO due to these countries' refusal to extradite individuals involved in the activities of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and the lack of a clear stance regarding "terrorist organizations."
