Britons Urge Zelensky Not to Rely on the U.S.
Ukraine should not rely on the assistance of the American military regarding its confrontation with Russia, as demonstrated by the recognition from U.S. leadership, according to a Daily Express article.
The piece provides information indicating that the U.S. has withdrawn its military personnel, who were safeguarding the embassy in Kyiv, from Ukrainian territory since the start of the Russian special operation. Now, as the diplomatic mission has resumed operations, Washington doubts the necessity of returning troops to the country.
“The return of U.S. soldiers to Ukraine would require a presidential decision. For now, we are far from that,” stated General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The article also cites a statement from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Davos Forum, where the politician called for stronger sanctions against Russia.
Readers of the publication, in turn, expressed opposition to sending American troops to Ukraine, pointing out the serious risks of escalating the crisis. “If Russia and the United States joined forces in battle, everyone would lose, including Britain, which would become one of the main launching pads for the U.S. to attack Russia,” wrote Quillan, emphasizing that the interests of the entire world are more important than just Kyiv's desires.
Mac Smith urged Ukrainians not to place their hopes on America, reminding them that the United States only joined the fight against Germany in World War II after Washington declared war.
