Azerbaijan Constructs New Mosques in Hadrut, Shushi, and Mataghis

The Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Religious Organizations of Azerbaijan, Gündüz İsmayilov, stated in a conversation with journalists that the construction of new mosques in Hadrut, Shushi, and Mataghis, which are under Azerbaijani control, will be ongoing. This was reported by the APA news agency.

The Azerbaijani official further claimed that 67 mosques have been identified in the occupied territories of Artsakh, of which only two are in good condition. However, this number is significantly inflated. Heritage expert Slava Sarkisyan has repeatedly stated that there are a total of 27 mosques in Artsakh, all of which are being preserved.

It should be noted that during the Soviet era, the Azerbaijanis slightly modified residential houses and presented them as mosques, while they had no real connection to mosques. Additionally, there are numerous churches in the occupied region of Artsakh, many of which are also in poor condition.
