U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Summoned by Foreign Ministry Over Controversial Warning
The U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, Jeff Flake, has been summoned by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, where he was presented with a complaint regarding the diplomatic mission's stance ahead of a rally held in Istanbul on Friday, as reported by RIA Novosti citing diplomatic sources.
On Friday, an opposition rally organized by the largest opposition party, the Republican People's Party (CHP), took place in Istanbul. In anticipation of the rally, the U.S. Embassy in Turkey issued a warning to its citizens, highlighting that Turkish law enforcement might act harshly.
“The complaint regarding the U.S. Embassy’s warning ahead of the rally that took place in Istanbul yesterday, May 21, was conveyed to U.S. Ambassador Jeff Flake, who was summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry today, May 22,” the source stated.
