Number of Monkeypox Cases Registered at 80, Says WHO
The World Health Organization has reported that approximately 80 cases of monkeypox have been confirmed, with an additional 50 cases under investigation by specialists.
"WHO and its partners are working to understand the level of monkeypox transmission and the causes of the outbreaks. The recent outbreaks, which have been reported from 11 countries, are considered atypical, as they have occurred in non-endemic countries. Approximately 80 confirmed cases have been recorded, with another 50 pending investigation results," stated the WHO in a Twitter post.
The organization clarified that monkeypox spreads through close contact, making individuals who have been in close contact with infected persons particularly at high risk. This includes healthcare workers and family members. While there is no specific treatment or vaccine for monkeypox, pre-exposure vaccination against smallpox has demonstrated high preventive efficacy against the disease.
