Igor Khachaturov Arrested
The Investigative Committee of Armenia's Yerevan city department is conducting investigative and procedural actions under Article 316 of the RA Criminal Code (Use of violence against a representative of power) regarding incidents involving acts of violence against a police officer by participants of political opposition gatherings.
According to preliminary information, on May 17, 2022, around 08:30, a group of participants organized by the political opposition obstructed the road near 15 Kievyan Street, hindering the free movement of other citizens. Police officers conducting public order maintenance at the mentioned location urged the group to open the road and attempted to remove them from the path. During this process, two participants from the initiative struck the chest area of one of the serving police officers, resulting in the officer losing consciousness.
As a result of necessary actions taken, the identity of one of the individuals accused of using violence against the police officer was established, namely Igor Yuri Khachaturov, the son of former chief of the General Staff Yuri Khachaturov. He has been arrested on suspicion of using violence against a representative of power. The investigation into the criminal case is ongoing.
