Emergency Incident in Vardenis: Wolves Maul and Damage Ewes and Lambs
Today, on May 13, an emergency incident occurred in the Gegharkunik region. A resident of house 56 on Kamoy Street in Vardenis, 53-year-old Kamo Asatryan, noticed between 07:00 and 07:30 that 15 of the sheep and lambs belonging to him and his brother were injured.
In an interview with shamshyan.com, K. Asatryan said, "I came in the morning to take care of the sheep and lambs, and I saw that the throats of two were injured and they were dead. Upon closer inspection, it turned out that another 12 were injured, and two others were missing. I called the veterinarian, who examined them and said that this happened as a result of an attack by wolves or a pack of wolves. Among the lambs were ewes, some of which belonged to me and some to my brother. We raised them on a loan, and our families depend on them. We have no jobs and are struggling under this debt. We have approached the Vardenis Municipality, and at the direction of the mayor, a deputy came to check and said, 'We will form a commission, and we will do something.'
The Vardenis fire and rescue squad also came, documented the situation, and the veterinarian assessed the injured, saying that they would not survive. We have suffered damage amounting to about 700,000 drams. At least the Gegharkunik regional administration and the Vardenis Municipality should provide some assistance!"
