Tragic Incident at the Russian Military Base Firing Range in Gyumri
Today at approximately 3:30 PM, a tragic incident occurred in the village of Vahramaberd. A 56-year-old shepherd, while grazing sheep, entered the tank firing range used by Russian troops, where an explosion took place. The shepherd died at the scene.
The deputy head of the Akhuryan enlarged community stated in an interview with factor.am that this area is assigned to the Russian 102nd military base in Gyumri and serves as a firing range, with access prohibited. It is likely that the explosion was caused by unexploded ordnance left over from military exercises.
It is noteworthy that in the same area, two children from the village, 10-year-old Arthur Mkrtchyan and 15-year-old Mushegh Gevorgyan, were killed in a landmine explosion in April 2013.
