Netherlands to Phase Out Russian Gas, Oil, and Coal by Year-End
The Netherlands government has announced plans to "abandon Russian oil, gas, and coal by the end of this year," according to BFM TV.
“What we truly want is for the Netherlands to be independent of Russian gas and oil by year’s end,” said Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
The Dutch authorities plan to focus on energy conservation, sustainable energy, and increasing gas imports from other countries, the government leader clarified during a press conference in The Hague.
“This is indeed a challenge, especially when it comes to gas,” Rutte admitted. However, he considers it feasible, as he believes the degree of the country's dependence on Russian gas makes it achievable.
Earlier, Politico reported that the EU's sixth sanctions package against Russia may be presented to countries early next week and could include a partial ban on oil imports.
