VIDEO: Drugs Found in International Postal Shipment from the USA to Armenia

Employees of the Armenian State Revenue Committee’s Department for Combating Smuggling, the Western Customs Office, and the Armenian postal service 'HayPost' jointly conducted oversight at a postal exchange center, where they discovered various types of drugs in an international postal shipment imported from the United States.

The State Revenue Committee’s Information and Public Relations Division reported that the items found included 82 grams of a green substance categorized as marijuana, 2.49 grams of a powdery substance categorized as cocaine, and five capsules containing MDMA, which were concealed among various items in the shipment.

Following a series of urgent operational intelligence measures, specifically “Acquisition of Operational Information” and “Controlled Supply and Procurement,” employees from the operational intelligence unit of the Department for Combating Smuggling apprehended T.H., a citizen of both Armenia and the United States, at a postal department in Yerevan after receiving the mentioned package.

In compliance with a court ruling from the first instance court in Yerevan, the operational intelligence unit conducted searches at several addresses related to the said citizen. A criminal case has been initiated at the Investigative Department of the State Revenue Committee under the relevant articles of the Armenian Criminal Code (Article 267.1, Part 1 and Article 266, Part 1, Clause 2), which describe the features of the crime. The citizen was arrested and subsequently detained.

Note: A suspect is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedures established by the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia, through a court judgment that has entered into legal force.
