Bodies of a Couple Found Hanging in Tavush Hours Apart: Details

On April 8, a tragic incident was recorded in the Tavush region. The bodies of a couple were found hanging. Notably, the woman's body was discovered suspended by a rope from the roof of a barn adjacent to a house in Lusadzor, while the husband’s body was found hours later hanging from the roof of his home’s basement in Aygehovit.

The Investigation Committee of the Republic of Armenia reports that a criminal case has been initiated and an investigation is underway. Further details mentioned in the statement include: “Necessary measures are being taken by the Tavush regional investigative department of the RA Investigation Committee to clarify all the circumstances surrounding the death of the couple residing in Ijevan.”

On April 8, 2022, at approximately 18:20, a report was received from the Ijevan Medical Center regarding the suicide of a 24-year-old woman from the community of Ijevan, who had hanged herself from the roof of a barn near a house in Lusadzor. A criminal case was initiated under the first part of Article 110 of the RA Criminal Code.

On the same day, at around 20:35, another report was received from the medical center regarding the suicide of a 35-year-old man from the Aygehovit community, who had hanged himself from the roof of his home’s basement. A criminal case was also initiated under the first part of Article 110 of the RA Criminal Code.

During the investigation, it was established that the individuals in question were married. A decision was made to combine the initiated criminal cases into one proceeding, assigned to an investigative group. To clarify significant circumstances regarding the criminal case, forensic examinations of the bodies were assigned, site inspections and body examinations were conducted, and several individuals were interrogated regarding the circumstances of the incident. Items have been seized as well. The investigation continues.

Measures are being taken to clarify all circumstances surrounding the couple's deaths, including determining the motive, ensuring an objective and comprehensive investigation, and verifying the circumstances pointed out in the testimonies. Instructions have been given to the investigative body,” the statement said.
