What is on the table is sufficient to cease military operations and start serious negotiations: Guterres
The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for a halt to military operations in Ukraine and the start of negotiations. He noted that there are "elements of diplomatic progress on several key issues" between Russia and Ukraine.
"What is on the table is enough to cease military operations and start serious negotiations," said Guterres. According to him, it is impossible to win this war; sooner or later, it will move from the battlefield to the negotiating table.
"The continuation of war in Ukraine is morally unacceptable, politically indefensible, and militarily senseless. It is time to put an end to this terrible absurd war," added the UN Secretary-General.
Speaking about the consequences of the conflict, Guterres highlighted the skyrocketing prices of food, energy, and fertilizers worldwide. He estimated that all of this could lead to a global crisis.
