Mariupol Airport Fully Under Control of Donetsk Armed Forces
Mariupol Airport has come completely under the control of the forces of the Donetsk People's Republic, reports a correspondent from RIA Novosti.
The airport was previously known as a prison and torture chamber for Ukrainian nationalists and the SBU. In 2014, at the time of the declaration of the Donetsk People's Republic, Mariupol, with a population of about 450,000, was the second-largest city in the republic. However, in June of that year, Ukrainian forces regained control over Mariupol, and its eastern suburbs became some of the hottest spots in the Ukraine conflict.
On March 7, 2022, Alexander Semyonov, deputy commander of the Donetsk Vostok battalion, stated that the city was surrounded, and the cleansing of certain neighborhoods had begun. There are various Ukrainian units in Mariupol, including the nationalist Azov regiment, against whom criminal charges have been instituted in the Russian Federation.
