A 30-Year-Old Resident of Gyumri Murdered: Another Local Arrested

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has announced the circumstances surrounding the murder of a 30-year-old resident of Gyumri, following investigative and procedural actions within the framework of a criminal case initiated under Article 104, Part 1, of the RA Criminal Code.

According to a statement released by the Investigative Committee, a report was received on March 16, 2022, at 19:29 from the Gyumri ambulance station, indicating that the body of a young man had been discovered in the municipal landfill of Gyumri. The ambulance crew responded to a call made by a 59-year-old resident of Gyumri, who reported finding the body while searching for colored metals in the landfill of the Boulevard district.

External examination of the body revealed a stab wound on the left thigh, abrasions on the right occipital region, and scratches on the right thigh. During the preliminary investigation, urgent measures were undertaken, leading to the identification of the alleged perpetrator, who turns out to be the aforementioned 59-year-old resident of Gyumri.

According to the investigation, on March 9, 2022, around 16:30, the suspect encountered the 30-year-old man at the Gyumri landfill, where an argument broke out over collecting metal scraps. During the altercation, the 59-year-old used a knife to stab the younger man once in the left thigh. Following this, as the victim threatened to take revenge, the 59-year-old struck him with stones, causing a nearby mound to collapse and bury the victim.

Regretting the incident, the suspect called for help some time later, and with the assistance of bystanders, they removed the victim from the ground, but he was already deceased.

During an investigative experiment involving the 59-year-old suspect, the knife used in the crime was recovered and confiscated. He has been arrested, and the preliminary investigation continues.
