Ukrainian Diplomat Attempted to Smuggle Large Sums of Money Out of the Country

Ukrainian authorities have seized nearly one million dollars in foreign currency, gold bars, and jewelry from a diplomat working in an EU country. It has been reported that the diplomat attempted to smuggle these items out of the country. This was announced by the State Bureau of Investigation, as reported by RIA Novosti.

“At the Yagodyn checkpoint, SBI investigators inspected the diplomatic minibus, which contained almost €68,000, more than $140,000, over 12 kilograms of gold bars, 1.8 kilograms of gold jewelry, as well as a large quantity of cigarettes,” the report stated.

A staff member of the embassy allegedly attempted to unload the items under the guise of a diplomatic bag. The confiscated property has been seized for the benefit of the state, and the diplomat has been fined.
