When Can We Expect Spring This Year? Surenyan Answers
One of the most frequently asked questions in Armenia these days is when we will see spring this year, when the influence of the current cyclone will weaken, and when a rise in air temperature is expected. Gagik Surenyan, the Deputy Director of the RA Ministry of Environment's Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center, receives many such inquiries but refrains from specifying timelines.
In an interview with Armenpress, he informed that another cyclone is approaching Armenia. “On March 15, the influence of the cyclone will be felt across the whole territory of the republic. Periodically, even in valley areas, snow will fall, and blizzards are expected in mountainous regions. On March 16, the cyclone will move southeast, and precipitation will cease in the northern and central regions, while snowfall will continue in Vayots Dzor, Syunik, and Artsakh. On March 17, dry weather is expected across the entire country, as we will be under the influence of an anticyclone. After noon on March 18, another cyclone will approach Armenia, resulting in a resumption of precipitation.
Regarding air temperature, I must say that warm weather should not be expected in the coming 5 days; the temperature will continue to decrease, and on the nights of March 16-17, the temperature will drop another 4-6 degrees,” said Gagik Surenyan.
He noted that March 2021 was also marked by heavy precipitation and temperature fluctuations; however, this year the trend of temperature decline and heavy snowfall is quite prolonged. What do these heavy snowfalls indicate, and what is their significance from an agricultural perspective? According to Gagik Surenyan, this year's winter was characterized by scarce precipitation in most regions, but currently, nature is compensating for it.
